Now, we’d made one round across the tap at roughly 5 ounce samples each. I knew it was getting colder outside, and would’ve sat down to quite a few of these warming Imperial Stouts before making the walk back into Boston. Relatively high in alcohol content at 7.7 %, yet smooth and subtle, not overbearing and heavy like Guinness. I thought the Imperial Stout was the gem of the group. It was tasty, malty and full-bodied, with subtle earthy tones.įinally came the Imperial Stout, one of the limited edition Hundred Barrel Series. The Munich Dark, brewed in the Munich style, was fifth on the tap line. Everyone from the website enjoyed this beer, except yours truly. Winter Warmer is a dark ale definitely well-suited for the holiday season with its cinnamon aftertaste. Harpoon’s Winter seasonal, the Winter Warmer, followed. I recommend it for drinking during any season. IPA and UFO battle for best Harpoon product crown, and I’d probably king the IPA on versatility alone. IPA stands for India Pale Ale, and is characterized by its hoppy nature. I’d consider having one at the bar, but that’d be it. Harpoon Ale is an amber-colored, somewhat understated fruity ale. When coupled with a lemon wedge many citrus notes stand out in this wheat beer. Perhaps Harpoon’s most famous product, UFO stands for UnFiltered Offering. We at were extremely enthusiastic of the proceedings, and had Micah pour samples of the UFO. Then he told us he’d give us a half hour open bar, followed by a roughly fifteen minute talk on the styles we’d tried, and finally another fifteen minutes of open bar time. Our bartender, Micah, told us the reason why Harpoon didn’t have a brewery tour was because the founders had always loathed tours and only sat through them for the taste at the end. 3:15 arrived and we gathered round the taps.
